Today I start the BeachBody 3 Week Yoga Retreat. This is like the 3rd time I’ve attempt to start this (at least…). For a variety of reasons I haven’t been able to get past the first 4 days. I’m am determined though, I’m going to get through the whole thing this time.
I’m actually really excited to get started on this. I even took some time last night to make a ‘tracker’ page for this first week. I’d share a photo of it, but it’s just a bunch of notes on the page of an old sketchbook. Next week I’ll make it cute and I’ll share a picture of it then lol.
First: the obligatory ‘Before’ pictures.

After the first 2 pictures I decided I looked to angry, so decided that I would strike a lazy sailor moon pose lol. ‘Cause why not? This is a happy thing, I’m starting down a road to get my healthy self back 😀
So for the Yoga Retreat they have a little pdf where you are supposed to take photos of you doing the various poses so you can have a log of day one and day 21. I thought this was a great idea, so I got my 5 year old and 7 year old to take pictures of me.
Because I had my kids taking my pictures they took like 10 pictures of each pose, this captured something I wasn’t expecting. I saw these moments where there was just a look on my face of pure relaxation and joy. I had forgotten how much I liked Yoga.
I’m grateful they captured that, because otherwise it would be easy to look at the photos and just see that I look like a blown up version of the me in my mind, or see the frustration that my body doesn’t move the way I want it to any more, or that my stomach gets in the way for many of these poses.
I’m not thrilled about being the weight I am right now, and I forget exactly how big I am because in my mind I’m about the size I was after I had my first kid. I really wasn’t that big then. But I’m determined to get my body back, and today I take the first official steps.
So here are the poses.
Forward Fold:

Even at my current size I’m ridiculously flexible. That is something that I’ve always kind of take for granted. I do hope to blast down my belly a bit so I can get my head closer to my knees, because right now it is just in the way.
PIank:
Gotta love my cheesy 5 year old in the background. That girl makes me laugh.
So plank, blarg. This one sucks for me. I want to get my body into a smoother line, but right now my butt sticks up a bit and I cannot hold this pose for very long because of my weak arms.
Downward Dog:
I have to focus so much when doing this pose, I hope at day 21 it ends up looking effortless instead of so strained. I’ll get there, it is all about practice.
Tree:

The balance poses for me are really difficult, and the ones I’m hoping to see the
most improvement on. Right now I have to tap down my foot a lot in order to stay up.
Crescent Pose:

This is the best copy of have of this pose. I don’t know if I’m doing it right. My son decided it was selfie time at this point so I just have the one blurry photo lol.
Warrior II:
Rawr! I am a strong warrior!! And I felt kinda silly on this one, pretty sure I’m doing it about 100% wrong. LOL oh well it’ll get better.
Triangle:

I’m not really sure what happened with my photographer at this point… but this is the best version of this pose I have. It’s more or less the way it is supposed to look.
Kneeling Rockstar:
Maybe it is because this is the pose that feels most like a dance move to me, but this is the one that while I was doing it I just felt happy. I want to have that kind of joy in each pose eventually.

Ok now for some kidlet pictures, since they had fun with my camera.

And naturally both of the older kidlet’s wanted yoga pictures as well.
