I haven’t updated this for a while, partly because I’ve not felt like I’ve had a moment to just sit and write down my thoughts. Parly because I always feel like I have to share something more important that whatever is going on in my life at the moment. Which is silly, since I started this blog not really to entertain but as a kind of online journal.

With that introduction out of the way- I’d like to report that my weight loss journey has been great and awesome and is in fact going so well that I’ve lost another 30 lbs. However, I hit a plateau this past summer. I had a few frustrations this summer and since then I’ve not been great about sticking with anything, in fact I’ve gained back about 10lbs.
During the past 6 months, I’ve been working on a rather large rearrangement of my basement. I cosmetically remodeled my husband’s office- so that it’d feel like a space for him. It’s about 90% done, I need to get the crown molding up but this has been hard for 2 reasons, 1, he’s always home and I don’t want to distract him during a meeting. I’d do it on a weekend, but those keep being busy for some reason. 2- I’m MASSIVELY intimidated by the project. I’ve got the right tools and I know what to do- I just need to DO IT. But that aside, his office looks so much better.
At the same time, I was tearing a part my husband’s office I painted a part of the largest room in our basement and rearranged the toys and got the kids new desks- they are all growing up, and a good place to do homework, draw, and whatnot is an ABSOLUTE must. Of course, I didn’t stop there- I tore apart and rearranged out entertainment section of the basement, and also set up a dedicated workout area. And of course, we have a storage room and a laundry area that I also tore a part and am reorganizing, all of these are at various stages of done.
Naturally, I didn’t stop there- I HAD to rearrange my front room as well. To put it bluntly- the whole house has been in an upheaval with each area of the house in various amounts of doneness.
It has been chaotic- I know when I’m done it will be worth it. As I work I have been discovering a few other more serious remodeling projects need to do… but they are going to wait at least another year after I get all of this in order.
All of that just to say- I had a list of things I wanted to get done by the end of February, and that is a mere 3 days away. So this morning I woke up and decided that I was just going to spent the next few days just cleaning.
Which is what prompted me to write today- and hopefully each day this week. I wanted to make a list of what I’ve gotten done, so that I can have an accounting of what I’ve accomplished. It just helps to see it written down, because often household management is a thankless job.
TODAY:
I focused on cleaning my bedroom. This consisted of the following:
- Going through a bunch of sewing-related crafting materials and projects that have been unceremoniously dumped on the floor next to my sewing machine.
- Picking up a whole garbage bag of trash
- Going through my box of mending that I’ve been avoiding and sorting out anything that isn’t worth my time to mend (kids have grown out of, ooops- thankfully this was only about 3 items) or was so badly damaged it isn’t worth mending.
- Bagged up 3 more bags that are destined for the thrift store
- I want to say something about this one. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO GET RID OF STUFF? Like, kids have outgrown it, or I don’t want to use it anymore. In one bedroom set it was something I never liked and bought super cheap at Walmart several years ago. I always feel like I need to keep everything and give it a second life.
- Then there are the things that make sense to be more difficult to let go- blankets my kids have had since they were young… (I’m going to double check before I give these to the thrift store)
- Maybe it’s just me- I know some people who get rid of everything, no matter how old and who it is from. While that is borderline horrifying to me- I also wish I could be like that
- Cleaned the TV console area
- Dusted and wiped down TV
- Took everything off and wiped down the whole piece of furniture (there were some random drink stains from where I had set down a cup… )
- Thoroughly cleaned the PlayStation
- Dusted all of the DVDs and games
- Organized all the bins and threw away a bunch of stuff
- reorganized the 6 little cubbies at the bottom of the console so that they are working better
- (I’m realizing I should take a picture of this thing, I use an old desk hutch for our TV- because we don’t need something very deep, so it gives us a unique space for our bedroom entertainment center I’ll try to remember to take a picture later and add it in an edit later)
- Folded and put away 6 baskets of laundry
- washed and dried 2 loads of laundry (will be put away tomorrow)
Throughout the day I was bouncing between the bedroom and the kitchen, the kitchen got a bit less attention:
- Washed 3 days worth of dirty dishes (don’t judge, it happens)
- Swept the floor
- Wiped down all the counters and the table
AND that’s it. I was hoping to get to the bathroom that is off my bedroom and the front room today as well. BUT that didn’t happen.
To entertain my ADHD brain during all of this:
- I listened to 4 hours and 15 minutes of scriptures
- I listened to 45 minutes of an audio book drama (finished the graphic audio version of warbreaker)
- Watched 4 episodes of StarGate SG1
- And listened to a variety of music to fill in the gaps.
I know this wasn’t the most interesting post I’ve ever written, but I is like 95% for me. Like I said, it’s just nice to see what you’ve done during a day- because sometimes it feels like you do nothing when you manage a house.
Tomorrow I’ll report on what I get done then. Maybe I’ll even find time to get a walk in. 😀
